🎙️ Founder Q&A – The Story Behind ArtistCloner - An Interview with Sylvio Comtois, Founder & CEO of ArtistCloner
Q: What first sparked your interest in high-end audio?
It goes all the way back to my teenage years. My first real “aha” moment happened in a basement — literally. I was exposed to an audio system that completely transformed my understanding of what music could sound like. The difference a preamp made blew my mind. That moment turned curiosity into a lifelong obsession with chasing pure, emotionally resonant sound.
Q: How did that obsession become ArtistCloner?
It started with modifying speakers, then building preamps and amps in the 1990s. What began as passion projects for friends evolved into a full-time pursuit. Over 30 years of experimenting, learning, and refining led to ArtistCloner — a company driven by the goal of delivering uncompromising, natural, and immersive sound.
Q: What does the name “ArtistCloner” mean to you?
It’s not about copying — it’s about recreating the emotional presence of the artist in your space. You may not be able to bring the artist home, but through refined gear and careful design, you can clone the experience. That’s the core of our philosophy.
Q: What makes ArtistCloner gear different?
We focus on simplicity and signal purity — minimizing interference, avoiding unnecessary components, and using only the best materials. Each product is hand-built with careful layout, resonance control, and fine-tuned by ear. The result? Audio gear that disappears, letting the music speak directly to the listener.
Q: Is your work more art or engineering?
It’s both — and that’s the point. The technical side ensures clarity, dynamics, and realism. The artistic side ensures the gear feels alive — in the sound, the aesthetics, and the craftsmanship. That’s why we’re called ArtistCloner. It’s about bringing soul to circuitry.
Q: What’s your mission for the future of ArtistCloner?
To keep innovating, but never compromise. We’re continuing to refine our line of amplifiers, preamps, and speakers, and collaborating with audiophiles and designers who want gear that sounds phenomenal and fits beautifully into their lives. Most of all, we want to spread the joy and emotional power that real music can bring.
